Project Files

You will need bhodiNUT's free NICKL deformer plugin to work with these scene files. You can get it directly from the Plug-in Cafe web site which is maintained by MAXON COMPUTER.

By downloading the project and movie files listed below you agree to the terms and conditions described on the Licensing page.

Sunken Treasure
The project file used in the article. Since writing the article I have added a fog object and turned off the Volumetric Caustics (you can re-enable them in the render preferences if you want) so that the scene file will render more quickly. I think it still looks quite satisfactory. It is all set up to render out a looped animation file (rendering as I write this) which I will post shortly.

Here are some project files to have fun with and to help you get better aquainted with bhodiNUT's NICKL.

I would love to know if you find these techniques useful. Please let me know about your NICKL success stories with your next project.

Flying
Looks soft - but it's not!

Three NICKL regions, a plane and a Vertex Map.

How's that for minimalist animation?

Period Noise Water
4 NICKL regions of a plane to make the water - another NICKL region on the sea floor with no temporal animation - just a transformation to make the landscape slide by. A UV transformation on a Texture Animation track syncs the checkerboard map up with the NICKL animation. Caustics make the whole water thing come together.

Lizard Step
Several NICKL regions (using what I call 'magnet mode') push and pull with a series of vertex maps as masks for the effect. This requires a very dense mesh to work - I don't think I would do footsteps in snow or mud with this, but for a single step or two - this could be awesome. I really did not spend too much time on the vertex map - a little more time and this would be so sweet.

Magnet
One NICKL region follows a path and pulls the plane with it as it passes along. I can think of tons of ways to use this!

You will need Apple's QuickTime software to view these animations
